Watched Kung Fu Hustle this evening with JP and Eka. Really great movie! I greatly admired Stephen Chow (Director, Producer, Scriptwriter, Lead Actor) for coming up with what JP called "The Ultimate Kung Fu Movie" as it comically combined all elements of great kung fu movies of the past yet scripted humorously for kung fu fans of this generation. It also contained some spoofs of American movies of which this helps the movie give bigger appeal to a more westernized audience. The special effects are just GREAT! Who would have thought that HK is fast becoming Asia's special effects hub? Then again, I think they do deserved to be called that, especially since its something that Chinese movies have been doin for a long time, with their long history of high flying, kung-fu stunt making movies...what more can I say? I remembered that a lot of recent local movies show during the film fest, had their special effects done in HK too.
ON A SAD NOTE
The Philippine movie is slowing collapsing. With news from JP that LVN Studios, one of the oldest icons of Philippine Cinema, maybe bought off or worse, closing down. Whatever happened? And to think that this country was 20 years more advanced that other Asian countries just 30 years ago but we never caught up. Its so sad and a waste of resources as there are a lot of talented people here in the Philippines but due to lack of resources and opportunities, a lot of them are not able to use their talents to its fullest potential, which could have helped better this country's economy. Hay...
